Welcome to our Towards 2042 – Review of our Community Strategic Plan

We are seeking your feedback.

Through Snowy Monaro Community Strategic Plan - Towards 2042 consultation, undertaken in 2021, Council guided the community through important discussions on our local government area’s main ideas and priorities. Your feedback informed a number of critical plans for our Council, which we documented in our current Community Strategic Plan. We are reviewing this plan to ensure we are on track and are capturing a future vision that reflects our unique local area and lifestyle.

Council has a custodial role in initiating and preparing the Community Strategic Plan, but it is a community plan. Many partners, such as state agencies and community groups, will be responsible for its implementation. The Community Strategic Plan ensures the whole community can contribute and work towards a shared vision for a better future.

Towards 2042 asks our local community some key questions, focusing on where we are now, where we want to be in twenty years, how we will get there, and how we will know if we’ve been successful.

How can you provide feedback?

There are plenty of ways that you can get involved:

  • Complete our online survey or discussion guide. Survey closed on 16 March 2024.
  • Attend a community pop-up stall at one of our local Country Shows

Towards 2042 allows us to consider what we love about where we live, what we’d like our future to look like, and how we will get there.

Q: What is a Community Strategic Plan and why is it important?

A: All Councils in NSW are required to adhere to the Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) Framework. In essence, the IP&R Framework begins with the community’s aspirations for the future, not Council’s. It includes a suite of integrated plans that set out a vision, goals and strategic actions to achieve them.

Q: Why does the Council create the plan?

A: Council leads the development of the plan on behalf of our community. We take your feedback, collate it and present it to the newly elected Council to help them determine their priorities for their term in office. We have a custodial role in initiating, preparing and maintaining the Community Strategic Plan on behalf of Snowy Monaro Regional Council, but we are not wholly responsible for its implementation. Other partners, such as state agencies and community groups will also be involved in delivering the long-term objectives of the plan.
