A meeting held in May at the Michelago Community Hall provied an opportunity for Council staff and the project design consultant to listen and capture the community’s voice relating to the Michelago’s Ryrie Street and Monaro Highway intersection.
Known as the gateway to the Monaro, Michelago has an opportunity to create a streetscape that is not only unique but also themed to provide a connection with an over-arching link to the Snowy Monaro region as a whole.
Being the first location to take a break at a serviced rest stop once leaving south from Canberra, the village proposed new gabion rock walls and customised signs which are intended to draw visitors and travellers into village for rest, relaxation and to support the local business.
To add to the project, specially selected street trees and with trees guards will help “soften” the landscape at the village intersection on the Monaro Highway.
The draft whole of concept designs that can be downloaded from the document library on the right of the screen.
