Consultation has concluded
Following significant feedback from the community, Council is taking a final poll to let the public decide between the original 1970s paint design for the Adaminaby Big Trout and the most popular new option from the recent consultation.
Despite option four being the winner of the poll that closed last week, comments received alongside the vote showed that a significant number of people wish to see artist Andy Lomnici's original design recreated – instead of a new design.
Cast your vote below before the survey closes on Tuesday 7 May 2024.
Council’s project team will be hosting a pop-up in Adaminaby alongside the Big Trout on Monday 6 May 2024 to speak with the community about the final design. Drop by between 11am and 4pm Monday 6 May 2024 to see the options in person and speak with us about the future of the Big Trout.
Background
Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the unveiling of the sculpture, created by Adaminaby-based artist Andy Lomnici in 1973. Andy was a Hungarian-born multi-disciplinary artist who came to Australia in 1940, working as a teacher before becoming a full-time artist based out of Adaminaby later in life.
The major maintenance and restoration work on Adaminaby’s Big Trout was undertaken in late 2023. Now it's time to have your say on the final paint design.
Our community, regular visitors and admirers across the country feel a deep connection to the Adaminaby Big Trout and what it represents. Council conducted a poll this year to determine a new artist-designed paint scheme for this iconic attraction, with the winner of that poll now up against the original Andy Lomnici paintwork in a final head-to-head vote.

This grant-funded project will also see upgrades and restoration work performed on the park and grounds surrounding the Big Trout.
