Share your experience and help plan the future of aquatic facilities and services across our region.

We will be seeking your feedback via a survey that will open on Monday 9 November 2026.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council (SMRC) is developing a regional Aquatic Strategy to guide the future planning, management and investment in Council’s aquatic facilities and services (e.g. swimming pools). The strategy will consider community needs across the region and help Council make informed, sustainable decisions for the years ahead.

Your local knowledge and experience are important. Whether you swim regularly, attend lessons or programs, support a club, visit occasionally, or do not currently use Council’s aquatic facilities, we want to hear from you.

About the project

The Aquatic Strategy will provide a region-wide framework for aquatic facilities and services. It follows Council’s adopted Recreation and Open Space Strategy, which identified the need for a regional aquatic strategy and a long-term approach focused on quality, inclusion and financial sustainability.

SMRC has five Council-owned aquatic facilities. Four are open/outdoor seasonal swimming pools in Adaminaby, Berridale, Bombala, and Cooma, and one year-round indoor swimming pool in Jindabyne.

What will the strategy consider?

  • How the community currently uses aquatic facilities and services
  • Participation needs for recreation, fitness, learn-to-swim, sport and community wellbeing
  • Accessibility, inclusion, safety and the visitor experience
  • The condition, capacity and performance of existing facilities
  • Service levels, programs, operating models and seasonal needs
  • Population change, regional demand and future opportunities
  • Affordability, environmental performance and long-term financial sustainability
  • Priorities and a practical pathway for future planning and investment

The strategy will guide future decision-making. It will inform future planning, budgets, grant applications, partnerships and staged investment. The strategy will not commit Council to immediate upgrades or guarantee funding for individual projects. Individual projects will remain subject to Council decisions, funding and approvals.

Have your say

Community feedback will help Council understand what is working well, where improvements are needed and what should be prioritised. You can participate in any of the following ways:

Complete the online survey (opens 9 November 2026)

  • Tell us how you use aquatic facilities, what matters to you and what could improve. [survey link will be inserted here]

Attend a community drop-in session (dates to be announced):

  • Speak with the project team and share your ideas in late November 2026

Provide a written submission:

Request a paper survey:

  • Copies will be available from each Council Office and swimming pool locations during opening hours

When providing feedback, please consider the needs of the whole region as well as your local facility. Tell us about your experience, the outcomes you value and the priorities you believe Council should consider.

Consultation closes 11.59pm Sunday 13 December 2026
