Consultation has concluded

Thank you to everyone who submitted a name for our new Jindabyne Library and placed their vote for one of the three finalists before Sunday 22 May 2022.

The three finalists were:

  • Jindabyne Library
  • Jindabyne Lakeview Regional Library
  • Community Lakeside Library

We received 401 votes and are pleased to announce that the winning name, with a total of 258 votes, is the Jindabyne Library.

Summary of names submitted for consideration

There were a number of names of prominent community members put forward, and while they have undoubtedly contributed to our community in a myriad of meaningful ways – it was clear that choosing one over the others just wasn’t going to be a viable or fairway forward to truly represent the whole community.

We are also pleased to confirm that the Jindabyne Central School Library, currently named after beloved English teacher Wendy Farmer, will retain its name when the library is moved to the new campus location.

We will work with Ngarigo Elders to identify if and which Ngarigo language may be appropriate to use for naming internal features of the new library, such as meeting rooms or our children’s area for example.

Construction of the library remains on schedule, with the modular, pre-fabricated building set to arrive on site later this month. Activity on-site is underway now.
