BACKGROUND
The Regional Trails Master Plan has identified sustainable trail opportunities on Council land which have the greatest potential to create benefits for the community, economy and environment.
The Snowy Monaro Regional Council worked with specialist trail planners at Tredwell Management to develop the Regional Trails Masterplan.
The project aimed to:
- Create a positive & collaborative culture for all users
- Strengthen the perception of the Snowy Mountains region as a destination of choice for mountain biking, cycling, trail running and walking
- Determine the optimal visitor trail experiences & iconic tourism opportunities
- Increase visitation that contributes positively to the local economy
- Enhance the sustainability & livability for local communities.
The project also included the feasibility of a ‘Round the Lake’ option for the Lake Jindabyne Shared Trail.
The masterplan is a comprehensive document and draws on important data to support the action plan. The summary report provides the key outcomes which include the opportunities for new trail projects along with the recommendations for improving our existing network and ongoing management framework.
